Born June 26, 1961 in Petrozavodsk. After graduating from the Faculty of Biology of Petrozavodsk State University in 1983, he worked at the Institute of Biology. In 1990-1994 he was a postgraduate student at the Karelian Research Centre. In 1997 he defended his dissertation.
