Green Belt of Fennoscandia: illustrated popular science edition. / Scientific editors: A.N. Gromtsev, DSc, O.L. Kuznetsov, DSc. Petrozavodsk: Karelian Research Centre, Russian Academy of Sciences, 2014. 116 p.
The edition is an extensive compilation of data on the most varied aspects of the natural complexes in the Green Belt of Fennoscandia. The information is presented in the language comprehensible to a layman, with no specialized terminology (or with proper explanations where it is unavoidable), and structured into brief illustrated sketches. Information in each section was roughly arranged in the followed order: 1) the position of the natural complexes or their components (geological, aquatic, flora, fauna, etc.) in the general context of the boreal zone of European Russia (spatial dis-tribution, distinctive natural characteristics, present-day condition, etc.); 2) brief description; 3) po-tential nature conservation value or uniqueness; 4) challenges for the conservation (or management) of forests, wetlands, red-listed species, etc. As a result, the book has accumulated in concise form the current knowledge about the Green Belt of Fennoscandia, richly visualized by photographic ma-terials. If interested in something specifically, the reader can get very detailed information on any section of the book from the publications listed at the KarRC RAS web site: http://green-belt.krc.karelia.ru.
