Nesting of the Willow Warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus Linnaeus, 1758) (Sylviidae, Aves) in natural and urban habitats of Karelia
// Biology Bulletin. Vol. 43. № 10. 2016. P. 1357–1364
Keywords: Willow Warbler, breeding ecology, behaviour, natural and urban habitats
Our study was carried out within the framework of the project 'Ecological and behavioural adaptations of the birds typical for natural habitats to the urban environment'. The Willow Warbler was chosen as a model object in this investigation aimed to provide the comparative analysis of the bird breeding behaviour in natural and urban areas of Karelia. We found out that the breeding dates, preferable biotopes and nest sites, as well as the clutch characteristics and reproductive relations of Willow Warblers were similar in different conditions, whereas the flight distances were smaller and alarm call intensity was higher in urban habitats than in the forest. Here we discuss possible explanations for the obtained results.
